Sandisk Sansa TakeTV
I finally got my Sandisk Sansa Clip and I gotta say it certainly lived up to my expectations. The size is just perfect, the screen is very readable even in daylight and it has a sleep/auto shutdown feature so I sometimes use it when winding the day down and going to bed. The only negative aspect I have (as with most Sansa Clip users) is the placement of the earphone plug. It’s just above the volume rocker and interferes a bit when you have to adjust the volume. But other than that I am quite pleased with my new gadget.
Anyway I was browsing through various sites reading up on the Sansa Clip when I came across this new product from Sandisk - the Sandisk Sansa TakeTV. Basically it’s a USB stick (in either 4GB or 8GB), the twist is that you can connect it to a TV (thru S-Video or Composite Video) and have it play video files. It can play MPEG4 videos including DivX and Xvid supports both NTSC and PAL. It even comes with it’s own remote, cool huh ? And at $100 (P4,500) for the 4GB model and $150 (P6,750) 8GB model it’s a relatively inexpensive portable video player which you can carry around when you travel.
And even for the home user it definitely has its uses especially for those who like to download a lot of videos. Now watching those videos on your TV is as easy as drag and dropping the files. Two things I would have liked it to have is built in battery so you wouldn’t need to plug in the device (nor carry the adapter around) but I guess it would have made the device too bulky. And ability to play music, although it’s been indicated that music and photo capability will be included in a future firmware update.

Are you watching more videos now?
I’m still thinking of getting it as I am already watching videos thru my PC currently so I really don’t need it at home. And when travelling I usually watch on my PSP…
Really good and really interesting post. I expect (and other readers maybe :)) new useful posts from you!
Good luck and successes in blogging!
Thanks HeavyGod, anyway I just found out that the new iPod Nano supports video out so I’m kinda thinking of getting it instead of the TakeTV as I can watch videos on the Nano even on the road. The tradeoff is that the resolution would be worse (only 320×240), doesn’t have a remote and I’d have to buy an extra cable…
