Greetings from Subic at the Smart Bro Congress!!! Errr actually it’s the 20th Philippine Advertising Congress but you’d think that it was an Smart event given the number of Smart Advertisement plastered all over the place.

Anyway, it’s about an hour before the official opening but I was able to drop by the Smart booth where they are launching the Smart Bro Mobile. Basically you can now access the internet via Smart Bro anywhere using a USB modem which you can attach to a laptop or PC.

At first I thought that this accessed the internet through the Smart Bro network which I thought a bit weird since I know Smart Bro is line-of-sight meaning the antenna has to be located at a specific location. However upon talking to the Smart Bro Mobile representative it turns out that they use 3G/HSDPA.

Given that they already have a similar service in WeRoam I asked the rep what was the difference between this and WeRoam but she couldn’t come up with any except for the price. My guess is that they will probably target the enterprise segment with WeRoam while having Smart Bro Mobile for home and small office users.
