Turn Your PSP Into a Portable TV and DVR
While the PSP Phone might be mere rumor the PSP TV is real and it just got better with the announced 3.80 firmware which will include Digital Video Recording (DVR) features to the PSP!
On December 18th, PSP firmware 3.80 will be released in Japan with two new highly desirable features. First is digital video recording capabilities, made possible with the new Japan-only 1seg peripheral. With firmware 3.80, it will be possible to record television shows from the 1seg peripheral directly onto the Memory Stick for later viewing.
I constantly watch TV Shows and Movies on my PSP, in fact I spend more time watching on the PSP than actually playing games on it. This TV and DVR combo really really boggles the mind. Think about it with one device you can play games, read ebooks, listen to music, view photos, surf the web, listen to radio, watch AND record TV. As Chandler would say “could it BE any fun-ner ?!”
The best thing is you can do this anytime anywhere, you could be buck naked taking a dump in the mountains and still be able to do all these things. This is almost the equivalent of Prometheus (Sony) giving humans fire (Sony PSP slash TV slash DVR slash Music Player). It not quite the same yet but if they give the PSP the capability to wipe our butts it would be up there.
Of course with all things good there always a catch, for one thing the 1seg peripheral is only available in Japan and even if you were to import the device here the Philippines doesn’t have digital TV. In fact I’m not even sure if we even have plans for digital TV in the near future.
Times like these I regret having the Americans liberate us from the Japanese. Otherwise we could be sharing in the Japanese’ gadget orgy right now, course I could also have ended up being a butt licker in a concentration camp…
