April Fools to Me

I was reading my favorite cranky old guy’s column about a new law passed by the US congress to phase out wifi yesterday and was wondering why I didn’t hear about this news before which is quite far reaching. I thought how did this stupid law (which includes a “license fee” on wifi) get passed by congress. Since I didn’t hear anything about this locally I thought about blogging about it. I was already in the process when I noticed that the article date was April 1! A quick search on google and my suspicions got confirmed, it’s Dvorak’s version of an April Fool’s prank… Guess it’s april fools to me…

PLDT DSL Limits Speed Demons

According to Azureus PLDT is guilty of massaging bandwidth of Bittorrent users.

Philippines
Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT)

Score Card:
Limits BitTorrent bandwidth: No
Tier 1 partners might shape: No
Proposed Encryption Level: 0
Limits bandwidth for accounts with a high traffic volume: Yes
Limits bandwidth during certain times of the day: No
Prevents Seeding: No
Prevents/filters .torrent download: No
Causes Unsolvable NAT problem: Yes
Offers no real flatrate: No

So far it’s only PLDT that’s guilty of doing this in the Philippines. I suspected they might have started to do this as recently I hardly get over 50k download speeds anymore when before I could get 400k(using a 3.6mbs connection). I guess this confirms it.
